Workshops

Sarah Robicheaux will be teaching a tablet weaving workshop on January 17th and 18th. We will put on a continuous warp at the workshop. Using this 2 color warp we will weave a sampler of several different patterns by changing the rotation and the angle of the threading in the tablets. This will give new tablet weavers a good jumping off point to weave on their own after the workshop. Sarah will be available to help workshop participants after the workshop is over for tips and tricks. All materials are included.

Workshop full.

Tablet Weaving

Overshot with Robyn Spady

Overshot is one of the most beloved and versatile weave structures in handweaving, where bold pattern meets rhythmic structure.  In this workshop, we will explore the fundamentals and creative possibilities of overshot, from understanding profile drafts and block arrangements to learning how fiber choice, sett, and color affect pattern clarity and cloth character.

Working at your loom, you’ll gain hands-on experience weaving classic overshot motifs as well as experimenting with modern interpretations. We’ll cover:

  • The structure of overshot and why it works

  • Reading and designing block drafts

  • Exploring treadling variations (Star, Rose, and more)

  • Yarn selection and sett guidance for success

  • Understanding floats, pattern weft, and ground weft

  • Pushing overshot threadings into new interpretations

  • Finishing techniques for crisp motifs and balanced structure.

Whether you're new to overshot or ready to expand your design skills, you’ll leave with multiple samples, increased confidence in reading and drafting overshot patterns, and inspiration to keep exploring this timeless weave structure.

When: February 28 and March 1 9:00am to 4:00pm
